Median Real Estate Prices - Box Hill Suburb

A$680,000 was the median property price for Box Hill real estate taken over the year to January 2010. The Box Hill real estate market has seen good price growth - 11.6%. During the same period, Box Hill units averaged $347,000, reflecting a 10.1% growth in prices.

Box Hill - Local Information

Although only 14 KM east of Melbourne, travel from Box Hill to the city by car can take over 30 minutes whether the route taken follows Whitehorse Road (most direct), Burwood Highway or the Eastern Freeway. The excellent frequency of trains from Lilydale and Belgrave and short travel time to the city helps explain why more residents use the train in preference to cars for their daily city commute.

The retail complex in the Box Hill Central area is now known as Centro Box Hill. This centre which is situated over and next to the underground station is among the largest retail and office precinct outside Melbourne CBD. The noticeable Chinese food styles offered by local restaurants and cafes reflects the multi-cultural makeup of residents particularly its large Chinese community.

The 8,600 residents are accommodated within a 3.5km2 land area. With a good proportion of the residents now over 60 years, houses will be sold and the land redeveloped for more intensive occupancy levels. Many houses constructed by the Housing commission after WW2 have lower market values to the rest of Box hill.

Box Hill proudly claims to be the educational destination for the region with four primary schools in Box Hill, Box Hill North and South, Box hill High and Box Hill Senior Secondary, Box Hill TAFE, Kingswood College and St Leos International College all located within its precinct.

The suburb caters for active sport - both outdoors (like football, athletics and golf at the 18 hole Box Hill Golf Club - 18 hole course), an indoor sports centre off Middleborough Road for indoor cricket, soccer, netball, and the AquaLink Box Hill indoor and outdoor pools, gymnasium, squash and tennis courts at Surrey Park.

Box Hill Hospital in Nelson Road, Box Hill, is the main public hospital in the region. The newly-built Epworth Eastern Private opposite, in Arnold Street, has greatly expanded private patient hospital services. Many medical specialists- rooms are located around Nelson Road.
