Burwood East Real Estate and Suburb Information

The character of Burwood East is constantly evolving. Increasingly a residential suburb since the 1950's, Burwood East witnessed the creation of a large business park on the site of the old Tally Ho Boys Home. This complex now extends to the northern side of Burwood Highway - Burwood East's main east/west arterial link.

A new mixed residential, commercial, retail and leisure precinct planned for the old brickworks in the west will significantly alter the suburb's character yet again. This development would add another 1,000 new residents to Burwood East's existing 10,000 residents. To meet this new challenge, Burwood East Plaza, opposite, is expanding and renovating and will see an Aldi store added to the complex.

Houses are predominant (91%) most of which are fully-owned and Burwood real estate prices are above the regional average with houses for sale quickly clearing. The suburb profile shows it has more Greek and Chinese-born residents than the Melbourne average.

Trams and buses travel along Burwood highway to the city (17 KM to the west), other bus routes also cover parts of the suburb.
