Docklands Real Estate & Suburb Information
Located west of the CBD, Docklands is a relatively new suburb of inner city Melbourne. It is bounded by Spencer Street, Wurundjeri Way and Charles Grimes Bridge to the east, CityLink to the west and Lorimer Street across the Yarra to the south.
Urban renewal began in earnest from 2000, and the Docklands now consists of a number of high rise apartment buildings with its population consisting mainly of young adults, with over half the population aged 18-34 years. Docklands does still retain a handful of significant heritage buildings, mostly related to the area's industrial and maritime history.
Primarily a waterfront area centred on the banks of the Yarra River, the Docklands main features include the Bolte Bridge, Etihad Stadium and Southern Cross Station. As well as housing some of Melbourne's newest and most trendy bars and restaurants, the Docklands has also become a sought-after business address, where the national headquarters of several large companies such as Myer, ANZ, National Australia Bank, and National Foods are located. The transport facilities and
proximity to the city combined with large, low-rise campus style office buildings are thought to be the major drawcards for such businesses.
