Indented Head Real Estate and Suburb Information

Three beachside towns circle the tip of Bellarine Peninsula where it juts north-east into Port Phillip Bay - one of these is Indented Head. Situated 105 km from Melbourne via Geelong, Indented Head was a holiday destination for Melbourne holiday-makers long before permanent residential development commenced. Current-day attractions include a boat ramp and jetty, boat and sailing clubs, a water skiers reserved area plus plenty of safe, sandy beaches dotted with old boatsheds.

The number of permanent residents in 2006 according to Census statistics was 5,200. This population, however, swells many times over during holiday seasons and is accommodated in the foreshore camping grounds and holiday homes that surround the town and beach-front.

Indented Head is a favourite town for retirees. 48% of its population is aged over 60 years compared with the regional average of just 19%. Indeed, the Greater Geelong Planning Scheme seeks to encourage a mix of housing with special emphasis on housing the elderly as well as tourists and holiday-makers. The planners want Indented Head to remain a "pleasant, unhurried bayside town". Surrounding wetlands also serve to limit the town's outward expansion.

Access to Indented Head is via Geelong Portarlington Road through St. Leonards, which syphons off many day-trippers before they reach Indented Head.
