Kew Real Estate and Suburb Information
Kew is one of the first suburbs of Melbourne, 6 km east of the city. Unlike most inner suburbs immediately surrounding Melbourne CBD, its many large elevated residential allotments on wide, tree-lined streets with city views created booming demand for properties that continues to the present day.
While many of the best examples of period residential architecture have been preserved, high land values have led to the redevelopment of larger estates like the former Kew Cottages off Princess Street.
Shopping Centres in nearby Victoria Gardens in Bridge Road Richmond and the Camberwell Junction shopping zones add to appeal of potential home buyers. Cotham Road is where you will find St. Georges Hospital.
Kew is mainly about top schools, excellent public transport and relaxed living.
Premier private schools dot the suburb. Barkers Road has the highest concentration of private schools; Xavier College, Carey Baptist Grammar School and Methodist Ladies College with Ruyton Girls School nestled behind and Trinity Grammar a stone's throw away. Cotham Road has Genazzano Girls School. Two State primary schools are located at Kew and Kew East. Kew High School in Burke Road has a good academic reputation as well. Census statistics show a higher than average number of students live in this suburb.
An extensive bus network service Melbourne's east funnels through Kew Junction providing excellent frequency and connectivity. Tram routes passing through Kew originate from Box Hill and Balwyn.
