Montmorency Real Estate & Suburb Profile
Formerly an orchard, dairy and poultry region supplying Melbourne consumers, the character of the area was overtaken by demand for new housing. Today, Montmorency is a fully settled residential dormitory suburb of Melbourne situated on rolling hills some 18 KM north-east of the city.
The suburb is bounded by Greensborough and Plenty River to the west, Briar Hill and St. Helena to the north, Eltham to the east and Main Road Lower Plenty to the south. Montmorency is a medium density suburb with 8,500 predominantly Australia-born residents living in detached houses within a 3.8 km2 land area.
The suburb has three primary schools and Montmorency Secondary College which overlooks Plenty River Valley. The Were Street strip shopping centre satisfies most basic living needs. However, for more serious shopping, nearby Greensborough Plaza Shopping Centre and the more distant Doncaster Shoppingtown are the places to go.
It takes 45 minutes to travel to the city by car or from Montmorency rail station on the Hurstbridge line. A bus service runs from Greensborough through Montmorency on its way to Doncaster Shoppingtown and Box Hill Plaza shopping centre
