About Nunawading Suburb Profile

Nunawading is a mixed residential and retail/wholesale suburb 18 km east of Melbourne CBD. Originally a region noted for its extractive industries, then orchard, residential subdivisions began in the 1920's and accelerated after WW2. Its 10,600 residents nestle north and south of the popular retail and service district that stretches along Maroondah Highway.

The Eastern Freeway provides the northern boundary while Dunlavin and Rooks Roads make up the eastern boundary. Nunawading's western and southern boundaries are ragged by comparison. Part of the City of Whitehorse, its neighbouring suburbs include Mitcham, Donvale, Vermont, Forest Hill and Blackburn. Major arterial roads bisecting the suburb are Maroondah Highway for east/west travel and Mitcham Road for north/south access.

The local railway station is Nunawading. Buses to the city run along Springfield Road.

The suburb has three primary schools but no secondary schools. The nearest secondary schools are Mulluana College in Mitcham and Blackburn High School in Blackburn North.
