Ocean Grove Suburb and Real Estate Information
100 minutes south-west of Melbourne lies Ocean Grove on the Bellarine Peninsula, a popular holiday resort with its elongated surf beach and safe swimming in the Barwon River estuary. The attraction of Ocean Grove as a family holiday destination has continued for more than a century.
For many years, zoning restrictions confined residential developments south-west of Shell and Tucker Roads. Rapid development is now occurring to the east in an area known as Collendina. Fuelling that growth is the new Ocean Grove Marketplace shopping centre in Shell Road which rivals the traditional catering and retail heart on The Terrace since it expanded with the new Ocean Plaza behind.
The face of Ocean Grove is changing. Old homes and holiday apartments are being redeveloped into bigger, more luxurious accommodation for permanent residents and holiday lettings. The pressure release valve for the thousands of high season tourists to Ocean Grove and Barwon Heads are the large public camping grounds set among the tea-trees on both sides of the river. Private camping and recreation parks offer extra facilities and home-like comforts.
Adding to the residential demand are early retirement couples desiring a seachange and people employed near Geelong just 30 minutes away as a dormitory suburb with benefits.
Ocean Grove has a number of local schools - Ocean Grove Primary, Surfside Primary, Bellarine Secondary College's Ocean Grove campus and Our Lady Star of the Sea primary School.
Water and beach activities, nature walks and outdoor sports are big attractions at Ocean Grove.
Field sports are played at Shell Road Reserve next to the Bellarine Aquatic Centre. Play golf at the Ocean Grove Golf Club. Finally, spend some time wandering along the network of tracks of the 143 hectare Ocean Grove Nature Reserve, the last large section of native bushland left on the Bellarine Peninsula.
